Robin Hood Goofs - Episode 2
Episode 2 "Sheriff Got Your Tongue?"
While the Sheriff of Nottingham and Guy of Gisborne take control of Locksley, Robin, Much, Allan and Will encounter Little John and his gang of outlaws in the forest.
Hello, My Name Is Little John
Of course everyone knows how Robin Hood and Little John meet. They have to have a fight with quarterstaffs over a river crossing. Except in the version Little John just robs him and ties him up. Probably because there was a danger that the costumes might’ve got wet. Behold the power of the costume department.
Magically Appearing Weapons
Robin, Much and Alan get captured, robbed, stripped to their historically incorrect underwear and tied up in the woods. The moment Robin gets free he’s got his trademark quiver and Saracen bow back. They must have just got dropped them or something when the robbers ran off, right?
Tick Tock
The sheriff says time is running out for Robin to give himself up. If he doesn’t give himself up, more of the villagers’ tongues will get cut out. To demonstrate the passage of time the sheriff waves his hand like a metronome and says “Tick! Tock!” At this point one of the guards leans in and says “Are you feeling alright sir? Only it appears that you are have been possessed by a demon which is forcing you to talk and act like a madman.” To which the sheriff replies “No, no, no, no! I’m imitating the action of a mechanical clock a hundred years before its appearance in medieval England. Just because no one here should get the reference doesn’t mean the viewers at home can’t.” Well that’s what should have happened anyway.
Much, The Fastest Manservant In The West
During the scene where Much tries to convince the outlaws to help him rescue Robin, the director, probably in an effort to keep the dialogue going smoothly, edited Much’s speech in such a way so that it sounded like a continuous monologue. However, the cuts meant that one second Much was looking left and the next millisecond he’d be looking right. It’s a style that’s never repeated for the entire rest of the series so I can only assume it was done to make Much look like the fastet manservant in the west.
Looking For The Second Archer
This scene revolves around the fact that Robin is facing the sheriff with an arrow nocked and the bow drawn. Take a look at the thread tying the fletchings on to the shaft of this arrow. The sheriff is casually sat in a high wooden backed chair when Robin decides to shoot five arrows in his usual super fast (2 seconds or less) succession around the sheriff’s head as a warning. But that’s not what’s wrong with this scene. No, what’s wrong with this scene is the fact that after shooting all those arrows it cuts back to Robin who has presumably drawn and got another arrow nocked. He’s drawn it back and is ready to shoot. But if you look at the thread tying the fletchings on to the shaft you’ll spot the fact that he’s got still got the first original arrow in his hand. So there must be a second archer in the room doing all that speed shooting! No, there must be five archers in the room doing all that speed shooting! It’s obvious when you think about it.
