Robin Hood Goofs - Episode 12
Episode 12 "The Return of the King"
News spreads that King Richard is to return, but for Will and Allan it means a return to their lacklustre former lives, and for Marian it means her impending marriage to Guy of Gisborne.
Night Watchman’s Unreliable Fighting Abilities
Marian decides that as she has agreed to marry Sir Guy now the king is due back, she’ll have one last outing in the guise of the Night Watchman and rob Sir Guy himself. Sir Guy has a couple of guards stationed outside his house who Marian knocks out with some Tenchu Stealth Assassin moves. Actually this means the stunt woman does a cart wheel past the guards, a whooshing thud noise is added in post production and the two guards fold faster than Superman on laundry day. Ten minutes later, when Marian finds herself discovered, she goes to the window of the house hoping to escape that way, but out on the lawn are two more guards looking up at her. Bearing in mind she managed to take out the two previous guards without breaking a sweat it seems an odd choice now to cower back in the room while Sir Guy tries to chop the door down with an axe like Jack Nicholson from The Shining.
How To Waste A Lot of Time
Actually she’s discovered in no small part by the fact that on finding the chest full of Sir Guy’s money she fumbles around trying to scoop piles of it into her saddle bags. The chest is about the size of three telephone books stacked on top of each other so it’s puzzling why she doesn’t pick whole thing up, tuck it under her arm and be off.
Alan and Will’s Gloomy Moment
With the king’s return Alan and Will ponder the fact that Robin will get a pardon and the Merry Men will disband. They sit in a forest clearing to discuss their gloomy options. And to match the mood it’s pouring with torrential rain. Very gloomy. That was good timing for the film crew wasn’t it? Or was it? Because although it’s pouring down the clearing is dappled with bright beams of sunlight like it’s warm sunny day and they’re just sat under a shower nozzle. But then again warm sunny days aren’t very gloomy are they?
The Instruments
Marian is apparently dying after being fatally stabbed by Sir Guy during her bungled Night Watchman robbery the previous night. Djaq tries desperately to do what she can but doesn’t have “the instruments”. On hearing Robin has sent for a physician she exclaims he’ll have “the instruments”. When Marian nearly bleeds to death a bit later in the episode she says she can’t do anything without “the instruments” and asks when will the physician arrive with “the instruments”? What instruments are these then? Banjo, cello and ukulele? Perhaps it’s a six piece drum set? Or do you mean scalpel, clamps and sutures? Of course Djaq can’t be too specific because it might mean a bit of actual research would have had to be done by the script writer.
